Highlights from the March 1-2 hearing in the Kobe Bryant case:
MONDAY: -The judge ordered prosecutors to turn over two pairs of underwear worn by the alleged victim to a defense expert for DNA testing, along with all other physical evidence. -The defense claimed in a court filing that the woman had sex less than 15 hours after the alleged attack. -A partially closed hearing was held on Bryant's motion to suppress his statement to police and some evidence gathered during a police search. The defense says police illegally interrogated Bryant. -A closed hearing held on whether the alleged victim waived her medical privacy rights by discussing details with family and others. Hearing concluded without a ruling. -Arguments were heard on prosecutors' bid to close hearings on whether evidence about the woman's past sexual activity and use of drugs and alcohol is relevant. -The judge agreed to consider a prosecution motion to limit defense questioning of the alleged victim regarding her sexual conduct, after first rejecting the request. TUESDAY: -The judge said Bryant's attorneys may ask the alleged victim detailed questions about her sexual conduct at the next hearing, March 24-25. -The accuser's lawyer issued a statement denying defense claims that she had sex with someone the morning after the alleged attack. -Seven young people subpoenaed by the defense arrived to testify in a closed hearing about the woman's sexual history. Bryant's attorneys hoped to argue other sexual partners may have caused injuries found on the woman. - The judge heard more arguments in a closed hearing on Bryant's motion to suppress his statement to police and some evidence gathered during a police search. |
